The Four Gate opener is one of the most basic Protoss build order packages. Before you delve  into more complex strategies, you should probably learn to master this one. It’s like learning to crawl before you run. It serves as a strong basis for most Protoss strategies and can help you in a myriad of combat situations.

Here’s the rundown of what to build. The number on the left indicates the supply level you need before you should start building:

9 Pylon
10 Probes (2)
12 Gateway (at 150 minerals)
12 Probes (2)
13 Assimilator (Stick 3 Probes on it)
16 Pylon
16 Zealot (only against Zerg)
18 Cybernetics Core (Buy Warpgate, research immediately)
18/19 Assimilator (Add two Probes)
19/20 Stalker (Assuming you didn’t use a Zealot)
22 Gateway
23 Gateway (2)
24/25 Pylon
26 Transform Gateways and build 2 Pylons
26+ Warp-in units (Sentry, Zealot, and 2 Stalkers)

Once you’ve warped-in two sets of units you should have 42-45 supply left. Move a probe and your army across the map and build another Pylon near the enemy base. Wait for your fourth wave of units to be ready, then start the push against your enemy.

This Protoss build order will work well at lower levels of competition, but if you want to compete at Diamond level you’ll need something more advanced. For professional-level Starcraft II strategy, check out this amazing guide written by a world champion player: Shokz Starcraft II Guide

Becoming the best Protoss player around requires a deep understanding of what sets the Protoss apart from the other races in Starcraft II. For one, the Protoss have far more advanced technology than either the Terran or the Zerg. As a rule, their units hit with more force and have more HP than their Terran or Zerg counterparts. Every Protoss build order depends heavily on patience and planning.

Here are some of the things that make playing Protoss different:

  • – Every unit is equipped with a powerful shield that regenerates when out of combat.
  • – Workers can build more than one building at a time if Pylon power is available.
  • – Units cost more and take longer to build but possess more strength.
  • -Warp technology allows you to move units across the field with unmatched speed.
  • -Buildings must be connected to a Psionic matrix in order to function.

Before you start thinking seriously about making Protoss your primary faction, you should play a few rounds of Starcraft II to ensure they match your play style. A strong Protoss build order will require a player that is patient, cunning, and skilled.
